CuttingBoard Bed Fix

From Unoffical Tevo Tornado Wiki

Alek Cap posted this fix originally in the Tevo Tornado facebook page:

Here’s an all-inclusive post on my $7 cracked bed fix. May benefit those of you who have opened up your brand new Tornados only to find out that your bed is cracked and you’re stuck waiting 2 months for a replacement from Tevo.

Before & After:

I’ve been running this on one of my other Tornados for months with thousands of hours of printing. Aside from the visible clips, you wouldn’t know the difference.

Go to your local big box store (I got this at Walmart for $7!):

Pick up a 12” x 14” glass cutting board (14.00 x 0.30 x 12.00 Inches). If you’re lucky, you’ll end up with some sweet graphics on it like I did tonight! The glass thickness is(0.30 in). Some cutting boards have a minor dimpled texture to them so pay close attention to that. It will still be just fine if you plan on putting mirror over it anyways. You can also use a 40cm x 0.5cm x 30cm board which may be more easily available in some parts of the world.

Heat up your broken heat bed and carefully remove the insulation and heating pad. There should be enough adhesive left to transfer over to the cutting board. Center it on the glass and apply pressure all around to secure it in place. Put the insulation back over the heating pad. I painted the back side of my glass to really make that graphic pop and to hide the orange heating pad. This is entirely optional of course.

Print out 4 of the glass clips. They will be in the files section of the facebook group titled “AleksGlassClip.stl” (links below to ones on thingiverse) . I’ve been using PLA on my other Tornado and used PLA on this one. This will work just fine(because the bed max temp is well below the temps that PLA gets soft at).

Take the stock screws and feed them through the clips entirely. It’s a tight fit so it’ll thread through. Once the screws are seated in the clips, you can clip them onto the edges of the glass. Put the springs into place, feed the screws through the holes on the Y carriage, and re-install the levelling knobs.

And that’s it really! Brand new bed glass for next to nothing. Only thing is you must have another printer in order to print the clips out on. If this is your first printer, I’d be more than happy to print and ship them to you!

Hope some of you find this helpful
